Very cool old driving glasses have amber lenses, wire earpieces and brown velvet-edged mesh side safety shields (which fold in to close glasses). These glasses don’t appear to have been used much, if at all, and were found in their original mailer box. I can’t make out a postmark date, but am betting they date from the 1910s-early 1920s. The box has a patent date of 1909. They were sent to Mr. H. Heidman, Milwaukee from Dr. H J Heeb (more on Dr Heeb below).

50mm x 40mm oval amber lenses are in very good condition with minimal wear. Glasses are about 4-7/8 to 5” across inside from temple to temple. Perfect accessory for a flapper-era Halloween costume or steampunk persona.

About Dr. Heeb: Dr. Harry J. Heeb was born in Milwaukee in 1882, and attended the Marquette University Medical School graduating with an M.D. degree in 1904. He did his graduate Medical School work in Vienna, becoming a specialist in eye, ear, nose and throat medicine, returning to the US in 1907. Dr Heeb was on the faculty at Marquette Medical School for more than 25 years, he served as a Chief of Staff at St. Joseph Hospital, a President of the Board of Trustees of the old Johnston Emergency Hospital, and was also the first examiner for the blind in the State of Wisconsin. He has been noted as one of the first to use the X-ray in Milwaukee medical practice. He also volunteered his time on several boards and was the member of several charitable organizations.

Returns and exchange details

As veraviola sells almost exclusively vintage & antique items, it is likely nothing will be "like new." I strive to mention any wear, soiling or flaws. However, since condition is often subjective, I will also do my best to provide very detailed photos for your examination. Please look at all photos and note listed measurements. But please contact me with any problems or concerns ~ I do want your experience with Vera Viola to be memorable in a good way!

Jewelry is sold on an 'as is' basis, so please ask any questions before purchasing. I provide multiple photos, measurements, and a detailed description.

Please convo me immediately with your reason if you are wanting to return any purchase. Buyer is responsible for return postage. The item would need to be shipped via a tracked, insured method AND received back by me in its original condition and original packaging within 14 days of the transaction (domestic orders). If these conditions are met, I will then refund the payment (less the original shipping charge if shipping upgrade was chosen).

Additional

While my home is smoke & pet free, please remember that the items I sell lived somewhere else for many years before they came home with me! Also, as a rule, I generally just dust off vintage items and send them on their way.
